An Arizona Historic Site, Cosanti is a unique complex of desert-appropriate, experimental, concrete structures designed and constructed by Paolo Soleri, world renowned Italian architect. Soleri is the originator of the "arcology" concept, a fusion of architecture and ecology, and built Cosanti with the help of students from around the world. Soleri founded the Cosanti Foundation in 1956 as a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the support of Soleri's noted architectural and urban planning research. Arcosanti, a prototype arcology in progress in central Arizona, is the main project of the Cosanti Foundation. www.arcosanti.org Visitors are welcome at Cosanti 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday; closed major holidays. Cosanti visitors may browse the studios and gallery where the bronze and ceramic Soleri Windbells are made and sold. Written works by and about Soleri, lithographs, and original drawings are also available at the Cosanti Gallery.
