Scottsdale’s unique heritage has its foundation in the vibrant cultures of Arizona's first inhabitants, the Native Americans. Over time, these cultures blended with those from Mexico and the Old West. This magnificent tapestry of cultures is at the very center of life in Scottsdale - in our art, architecture, music, and cuisine. We invite you to learn about the cultures of our past - you'll find they are at the very heart of our present!

Begin your cultural explorations at the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, featuring a prehistoric Hohokam ruin encircled by a 2/3-mile interpretive trail. Inside, changing gallery exhibits explore Hohokam archaeology, Southwestern cultures and contemporary American Indian arts.

Continue your journey through Native American cultures at the Heard Museum, which is world-renowned for its outstanding collection of Native American art and artifacts. The museum is garnering additional praise for its new long-term signature exhibition, HOME: Native People in the Southwest. The central theme of HOME reflects the importance of family, community, land and languages commonalities that play an important role in the lives of all Native people. In addition to fine art and more than 2,000 cultural treasures, the exhibition also features an e-room, where you can access appropriate Web sites and the Internet, as well as hear radio connections from tribal areas and peruse Native newspapers and magazines.

On your way to Old Town Scottsdale, stop at Julio G's Mexican Restaurant. Julio G's is striking with miles of shiny black tile and dazzling 40's decor. To that design, add award-winning Sonoran-style Mexican food at its finest, packed with almost 50 years of family tradition. You will find a unique and enjoyable dining experience.

After lunch, enjoy a taste of our city’s pioneer past by browsing the streets of Old Town Scottsdale. Highlights include Cavalliere’s Blacksmith Shop where early settlers had their horses shod; Rusty Spur Saloon, the destination of choice for the Hashknife Pony Express riders who gallop from Holbrook, Arizona to Scottsdale each year during the Parada del Sol celebration; and the Little Red School House, now home to the Scottsdale Historical Society museum.

For more Western fun and a mighty fine supper, mosey on up to Pinnacle Peak Patio Steakhouse & Microbrewery. Pinnacle Peak features delicious mesquite grilled steaks and all the fixin's, as well as baby back ribs, special vittles for the youngsters, and to-die-for desserts. Whatever you do, just don’t violate the Peak’s casual dress code – since the restaurant opened more than 48 years ago, scissor-wielding waitresses have lopped more than a million ties from the necks of unsuspecting customers. Thousands of the ties still adorn the ceiling of the steakhouse.
