Celebrating Art

Each year, Experience Scottsdale profiles a selection of local celebrities, from restaurateurs and sports figures to artists and adventurers. We invite you to meet this year’s luminaries and find out what they have to say about living, working and enjoying life in Scottsdale.

"The comment I hear over and over is that there’s so much great energy in the tent,” says Susan Morrow Potje, who, along with her husband, Jake Potje, produces Scottsdale’s annual Celebration of Fine Art. “You really feel a heightened sense of excitement because of all the creativity that’s going on.”

A favorite among artists, collectors and browsers alike, the Celebration of Fine Art has been a Scottsdale tradition for more than 20 years. Every January through March, more than 100 juried artists, representing art in a wide variety of mediums, set up working studios under the Celebration’s signature white tents. This gives guests the opportunity to watch the artists create and talk with them about their work. “Our artists are passionate about their work and they love to share what inspires them,” says Potje. “Visitors enjoy connecting with the artists and will come back multiple times to see what’s new and to share the experience with friends.”

Potje uses the words “energy” and “passion” to describe the Celebration, but they could easily be used to describe her as well. “What drives me is seeing people excel and live out their dream,” she says. “The best reward of all is watching gifted artists who believe in themselves and their work share that joy with our guests.”
